For your consideration this Fall, I submit the Rick Owens ankle boot ("Stitched Wedge Ankle boot" at Barneys.) With a covered platform, chunky side zipper and silver snap button
tab. The somewhat imposing 4-inch heel feels like 3 inches or less because of the miraculous platform (and the genius-made lasts). The pitch of these boots is decidedly non-threatening. The quality of the leather is excellent, with a beautiful luster. I wore them for three days in a row -- two of the days were 12-hour days -- and experienced only minor discomfort. Great with a layered look over skinny Rick Owens leggings or even bare legs. "I try to make clothes the way Lou Reed
